ALL-WOMEN MOTOR RACING CHAMPIONSHIP ROARS ONTO SKY SPORT

Sky Sport is proud to announce that the world’s first and only all-women motor racing championship, the W Series, will be broadcast live on Sky Sport from Saturday 4 May.

The brand new series will begin from the legendary Hockenheimring in Germany with W Series Qualifying starting from Saturday 4 May (9.55pm Sport Pop-Up 5). The inaugural W Series Race will take place Sunday 5 May (1.45am SKY Sport 4)

With only two women having competed in Formula 1, the last being 40 years ago, the W Series aims to improve this and inspire a new generation of female drivers.

From 2019 onwards the W Series will give 20 women from around the world the opportunity to race relevant cars on the best European tracks, giving them the experience and qualifications to put them in contention for potential Formula 1 drives in the future.

The series is unique in the fact that it is free to compete in with all of the funding provided by
W Series. Drivers will also race in identical cars, meaning they will be competing on equal terms and the winner will be decided by ability, not budget.

The races will be 30 minutes in length, high on action and will take place on iconic circuits throughout Europe in 2019, with the series going global in 2020.

W Series: Hockenheim, Germany
Qualifying: Saturday 4 May 9.55pm Sport Pop-Up 5
Race: Sunday 5 May 1.45am SKY Sport 4

Sky Sport will broadcast live coverage of qualifying and races from all six W Series events as well as full replays of both qualifying and races.
