Sundays from 7 July at 8.30pm Channel 070

50 years after mankind's first steps on the lunar surface, reaching the Moon is still a metaphor for an impossible journey. However, over the course of eight years 400,000 people from all over America came together to accomplish one of the greatest feats of human exploration: successfully landing a man on the moon and returning him safely to Earth. But whilst the astronauts who walked on the Moon became household names, the men and women who created the machines that made their journeys a reality have gone largely unnoticed. Moon Machines tells the hidden stories of the people who made the astronauts' mission possible. From the gigantic Saturn V rocket to the fragile tissue paper lunar lander, we examine the engineering that landed men on the Moon and meet the people behind it.
