NZ Premiere

THURSDAY 13 JULY 9.00PM Channel 010

Based on the critically acclaimed, bestselling nonfiction book of the same name by Rebecca Skloot, The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks documents the story of an African-American woman who was diagnosed with cervical cancer in the 1950s, and whose cancer cells (later known as HeLa) would change the course of cancer treatment. Told through the eyes of Henrietta’s daughter Deborah (Oprah Winfrey), the film chronicles her search, along with journalist Rebecca Skloot (Rose Byrne), to learn about the mother she never knew and learn how the unauthorised harvesting of cells in 1951 led to unprecedented medical breakthroughs, changing countless lives and the face of medicine forever.

Starring Oprah Winfrey (The Color Purple), Rose Byrne (Damages) and Courtney B. Vance (American Crime Story).
