Thursday Documentary

Thursday 5 September at 7.30pm Channel 013

On February 15, President Donald Trump declared a national emergency to bypass Congress and free up billions for his border wall. The alleged national emergency? A migrant caravan of several thousand people fleeing violence in Central America. Many of these people are currently trapped in the Mexican border city of Tijuana as they await possible asylum in the U.S. Since the caravan's arrival in October 2018, Tijuana has been the site of protests and riots. Border police fired tear gas at migrants trying to rush the border, and the streets have become a hotbed for disease. However, the notorious cultural funnel between North and South America is also home to a generation of young people ready and willing to do whatever it takes to help in what has been dubbed 'a humanitarian crisis' by the city's mayor.
