LET THE GOOD TIMES BOWL – BOWLS3FIVE TO LAUNCH ON SKY SPORT

SKY Sport is proud to be producing the fastest and most exciting edition of bowls yet, Bowls3Five!

Rolling into town from Tuesday 23 October, Bowls3Five will attempt to bring the fast paced nature of T20 cricket and the atmosphere of the darts to the New Lynn Bowls Club every Tuesday and Wednesday, for the next six weeks.

With six teams from up and down New Zealand competing, provincial pride will be on the line each week. Of special note, in the teams are former All Black Alex ‘Grizz’ Wyllie suiting up for the Woodend Jets and the reigning world champion in men's singles, Shannon McIlroy playing for Stoke Thunder.

Across the six teams, ages span from 17 to 78! There are five teenagers (two each from Gore and Stokes Valley) and six in their 70s.

With the launch of Bowls3Five a number of new rules will be introduced. Erin Nurkka, Bowls NZ Commercial Manager, explains:
“We were looking for a format of our sport that can be played in less than an hour. The power play is a great element as it switches the game really quickly.  The traditional bowler has to play a different strategy, so it is a new challenge for them and keeps them on their toes.”

SKY Sport will have three commentators on site including: Jenny Woods, Miles Davis and, bowls legend, Gary Lawson.

“I’m really happy to be commentating and with Jenny and Miles it will be quite colourful,” says Gary.
“My job is to try and educate the people watching… and hopefully add a little bit of expertise.”

The Crowd Goes Wild will also be broadcasting from New Lynn Bowling Club every Tuesday night from 23 October for six weeks. This will be broadcast LIVE on Prime and SKY Sport 2 from 7.00pm.

About Bowls3Five:
The format is specifically made for television.
The games will be played in one direction with two sets of five ends.
If each team has won a set or both sets are drawn, there will be a tie-break end to decide the winner of the game.
The televised league starts with a double round-robin draw, all teams playing each other twice over the first five weeks. The six teams will then be ranked heading into the finals which are played in week six.
