Some of New Zealand’s best-known coaches and athletes will lead a series of daily sport coaching and challenges in an exciting new joint initiative from Sky Sport Next, the New Zealand Sport Collective and stuff.co.nz.

Sky Sport Next’s Home Advantage, is a series of short, sport-specific coaching videos available free to air on the SkySport Next You Tube channel,” says gold-medallist Rob Waddell, head of the New Zealand Sport Collective.

“I know it’s a challenge to stay fit and motivated for your chosen sport when most of us are staying at home to help knock Covid-19 on the head.  But even while we’re apart we can come together online with fantastic free coaching and inspiration from some of New Zealand’s best athletes.

“Sports stars like the Tall Blacks, Tall Ferns, Beach Blacks and Touch Blacks, as well as star individuals such as athlete and medal-winner Tom Walsh, World Number 5 squash player Paul Coll and golfer Ryan Fox, will help Kiwis sharpen their skills and keep in shape with pro tips, so when things start to get back to normal, we are all ready to roll.”

Home Advantage kicks off with three featured sports (TouchTennis and Squash) with many more to come*.

For the most part viewers won’t need any special equipment – coaches will be encouraging trainee athletes to improvise.  “It’s amazing what you can do with a can of baked beans in a skills session,” says Waddell.  “Home Advantage is all about expert advice delivered in a fun way for all ages and stages.  What’s also exciting is the opportunity to try out new sports, and schools can use Home Advantage as a free resource for their training and PE.”

Iain Potter, CEO of Basketball NZ says, “Our athletes were excited to create a sense of community during physical isolation. We’re all in this together – athletes are exercising at home, and this allows Kiwis to get inspirational tips, motivation and exercise ideas from the best.”

Simply head to SkySport Next on You Tube each day for the featured Home Advantage video, all of which will be available ongoing. Selected videos will also be available on Prime, Sky Sport and stuff.co.nz. In addition, the Stuff team will be profiling the athlete or sport from the daily video to look at how they are meeting the challenges of the lockdown.  The first sport to be profiled is Tennis.
