  • Revised NRL comp to kick off May 28
  • Sky Sport’s Warriors TV crew to be embedded in the team in Australia

Sports fans rejoice – we’re all missing live sport, but sport is getting back up again!

With the Vodafone Warriors heading across the ditch today, Sky Sport couldn’t be prouder to soon be bringing live matches and more to sport-starved Kiwi fans.

Martin Stewart, Sky CEO says, “Sky Sport is 100% there for the Vodafone Warriors. We have been in regular dialogue with all the sports we support, but right now we are gearing up to broadcast and stream the NRL live from 28 May.  Our top priority is getting in behind the courageous Vodafone Warriors. These guys and their families are putting everything on the line to get back in action.

“We are privileged and humbled to have been given permission to send our Warriors TV crew across with the team to cover the challenges they face preparing to get the 13-man game back on the field, and to be there for the opening salvo.  Blake Ayshford and Francis Leger have a fantastic relationship with players, their families and management and will have unique access to this beloved NRL team.”

The Sky team has had their own challenges operating an essential broadcasting service with minimum hands on the ground.  Despite the majority of staff having to work remotely from their kitchen tables, living rooms or the occasional wardrobe, the crew has been able to create and deliver new sports programming from scratch and scour the world for world-class entertainment (including sports related movies).

“Our team has gone above and beyond to keep our customers informed, inspired and entertained. Every single team member has made a fantastic contribution, but there’s no denying we have ALL been missing live sport – and now we can breathe a sigh of relief that it looks like we’re underway again.  We applaud Cameron George and the Warriors for their commitment to getting back on the field.  It’s nothing short of miraculous.”

Rugby League won’t be the first major live sport back on Sky Sport screens. UFC 249: Ferguson v Gaethje is live and streaming Sun 10 May on Sky Sport Now and on Sky Arena, for $39.95 with prelims live at midday free to air on Prime & also available on ESPN.

This is followed by WWE Money in the Bank, on Mon 11 May – live and available on Sky Arena, for $29.95.

Stewart says, “Every day New Zealanders do the right thing and stay in their bubbles and look out for one another, brings us a day closer to more live sport being available.  We are in this together and it’s exciting we’re starting to come out the other side.”
