Sky welcomes the decision from the Government today that ANZ Premiership Netball and Investec Super Rugby Aotearoa will return to competition under Alert Level 2.

Rugby and Netball are two of the most highly watched sports on Sky Sport, along with Rugby League, and the Sky team is thrilled to be able to deliver live kiwi sport to Sky Sport customers again soon.

Dates for the Rugby and Netball competitions will be provided once the Government formally announces the move to Alert Level 2, and we’re very hopeful that competitive play will be able to resume in June.   The NRL remains on track to commence play in Australia on 28 May.

The Sky Sport and OSB teams have undertaken detailed planning for the return of sport production and broadcasting under Level 2 restrictions, with strict health and safety protocols to be applied.  Sky has operated efficiently and effectively as an essential service through the Covid-19 lockdown period, and we will work closely with our sport partners and venues to ensure the safety of players, crew and match officials.

Sky CEO Martin Stewart welcomed today’s decision, saying: “The Sky team has worked very hard to deliver appealing content to our customers during this period with no live sport, working with our sport partners on creative new shows as well as offering complimentary access to our entertainment and Movies content for Sky Sport customers.  We’re delighted to be close to delivering exciting live sport to them again.”

“We look forward to working with our partners NZ Rugby and SANZAAR, Netball NZ and the Vodafone Warriors to bring live sport back to New Zealand fans.  And we’ll keep working with all the other codes and hope that in the near future they too will be able to compete.”
