SKY SECURES EXCLUSIVE BROADCAST RIGHTS FOR NZ & AUSTRALIA RUGBY LEAGUE

Big news today for New Zealand Rugby League fans as SKY announces a long term deal with Australia and NZ Rugby League. The deal, which goes through to the 2022 season, gives SKY exclusive broadcast and digital rights to NRL matches, NZ tests, domestic matches, State of Origin and NRL Nines tournaments. Rights to women’s test matches are also included in the deal.

“SKY New Zealand has long been a valued partner of NZ Rugby League,” said acting NZ Rugby League CEO Alex Hayton.

“There are extremely passionate League fans in New Zealand. With the Kiwi’s recent winning streak against the Kangaroo’s we know there will be keen interest in test matches starting with the ANZAC clash tomorrow evening.”

SKY’s Director of Sport Richard Last said: "We are absolutely thrilled to let our customers know SKY will continue to be the home of Rugby League through to 2022. Working with both NZ and Australia Rugby League we will proudly deliver all the action to homes and devices through SKY and Fan Pass. I’ve been looking through the archives and it’s pretty incredible to know Rugby League has been on SKY since our first broadcast in 1990 every year right through to today. That’s 26 years and it will be 32 at the conclusion of this new deal.”

ARL Chairman John Grant said the agreement with SKY was a great outcome for Rugby League and particularly the fans in New Zealand.

“It means New Zealand viewers will be able to see the best of our game for the next seven years… and those benefits start flowing tomorrow with the Test between Australia and New Zealand,” he said.

“These are the top two international teams in the world so it does not get much better than that.”

We kick off Friday night at 7.15pm with LIVE coverage of the women’s rugby league test between the Australian Jillaroos and New Zealand Kiwi Ferns on SKY Sport 2. At 9.05pm a studio build-up follows before LIVE coverage of the ANZAC test between Australia’s Kangaroos and the New Zealand Kiwis.
