VICELAND, the new TV channel from global youth media brand VICE, today revealed a bold and diverse range of programming, offering audiences across New Zealand a contemporary take on culture, music, news, food, drugs, identity, sexuality, fashion, sports and more.

Embodying the spirit of VICE, the much-anticipated 24/7 channel, created for and by those curious about life right now, will be available on SKY Channel 13, SKY GO and On Demand for all existing, and new, SKY Basic customers from December 1.

Overseen by award-winning director Spike Jonze, VICELAND follows a launch to critical acclaim in the US earlier this year and, more recently, the UK. France and Australia will launch in the next few weeks.

Premiering on VICELAND from launch: actor Michael K Williams’ examination of underworld economies in Black Market; Ellen Page and Ian Daniel’s Emmy® nominated exploration of LGBTQI cultures around the globe in Gaycation; the Emmy® nominated Woman, in which feminist icon Gloria Steinem guides us to the world’s women who are shaping futures beyond their own; and Krishna Andavolu’s in-depth look into the ethics of marijuana use and legalisation in Weediquette.

Included in VICELAND’s New Zealand launch programming: a special episode of VICE World of Sports, a series which chronicles unique stories from around the world that illustrate the relationship between sport and society. Set in Kenya, host Selema Masekela meets acclaimed Kiwi long distance runners and twin brothers Jake and Zane Robertson, who moved to the running mecca of Kenya’s Rift Valley almost a decade ago in an attempt to learn the secrets of the world’s best athletes.

An episode of rapper chef Action Bronson’s culinary adventure series F*ck That’s Delicious also appears in December. Filmed in New Zealand on tour, performing at Auckland City Limits, the Queens-bred food lover explores the unique flavours of the City of Sails and beyond.

VICELAND will also deliver an international news alternative in the nightly VICE News and VICE on HBO; explore the world of cyberwarfare in Cyberwar; immerse Kiwis in the food and politics of diverse cultures with Eddie Huang in Huang’s World; and provide a first-hand look into the global music scene with Noisey.

“VICELAND’s fresh approach to television will ensure the channel stands apart as a truly unique offering on our platform.  The anticipation for this channel is palpable and we’ve collaborated with VICELAND to ensure the launch schedule is packed with all the very best content from the U.S. and U.K. that Kiwis have been waiting to see,” said SKY’s Director of Entertainment Content, Travis Dunbar.

“Going forward our customers will enjoy all the key VICELAND content that matters to them the same time as their fellow VICELAND fans across the globe, ensuring Kiwis never miss a minute of this cutting-edge programming.”

VICELAND also presents an exciting opportunity for SKY and VICE to work together on future local programming and New Zealand is firmly on VICELAND’s radar as Grace Neutral’s exploration of global tattoo culture brings her Down Under to film a future episode of the VICELAND UK produced Needles & Pins over the next few months.

Since launching in 2005, VICE New Zealand has been producing acclaimed editorial and video programming for young local audiences across a network of digital channels spanning news, culture, music, fashion, tech and sports.

Michael Slonim, VICE Managing Director Australia & New Zealand said, "Over the past decade, Kiwi audiences have been glued to VICE's groundbreaking video content on the internet. We're incredibly excited that New Zealand will be the sixth country on the planet to switch on VICELAND, and we'll be launching with a slate of our most original and exclusive TV shows on SKY, covering the things that matter most to young people."
