UNIQUE SKY ARTS INTERACTIVE LOCAL ART COMMISSION STREAMING LIVE ON FACEBOOK

Watch live from 11am this morning, get involved and you could win a piece of this exclusive artwork.

SKY ARTS is giving kiwis the chance to not only win a unique piece of New Zealand artwork but help shape the work itself as part of its celebration of New Zealand art, culminating in the SKY ARTS Art Your TV Pop-up Gallery from 10-17 November.

Auckland artist and illustrator Elliot Francis Stewart has been commissioned to live-paint a billboard-sized canvas at LOT23’s central Auckland studios to celebrate the event which will be streamed this Thursday and Friday on SKY’s Facebook page at facebook.com/SKYnewzealand.

Watchers are encouraged to interact with Elliot during the streams, leaving suggestions on the Facebook Live stream of items, motifs or themes that he could incorporate as he paints.  Elliot will adapt his work as he goes so the final artwork will be very much a big reveal for everyone involved.

The final artwork will be divided into 100 equal pieces which at the end of the two days will be gifted to 100 people drawn at random from those who interacted with the live stream.

“It’s a tremendous honour for us to collaborate with someone as talented as Elliot on this very distinctive piece of Kiwi artwork,” said SKY ARTS channel manager Chris deBazin.

“For Elliot to be not only producing live, but incorporating feedback from those watching, this a fascinating way for everyone to get involved in New Zealand art and hopefully gain a better understanding of and appreciation for our very talented Art community.”

SKY ARTS has partnered with five of New Zealand’s most well-known galleries to display works from their artists on a special pop-up channel for one week in November, turning the nation into the world’s largest art gallery.

From 10am on November 10, all SKY Basic customers will have access to the SKY ARTS Art Your TV Pop-up Gallery on channel 220, which will screen a revolving showcase of works from a wide variety of New Zealand artists.  Images of each artwork will be broadcast in 15 minute rotations throughout the day and those featured will include Colin McCahon, Jen Sievers, Peter Stitchbury, Karley Feaver and Dick Frizzell.

The participating galleries, Art+Object, endemicworld, LOT23, Mossgreen-Webb’s and Gow Langsford, will each showcase on separate days during the period and all artworks will be available for purchase.

The SKY ARTS Art Your TV Pop-up Gallery is open from November 10-17 on SKY Channel 220 and is available at no extra charge for all SKY Basic customers.
