Press Release

A full innings of international cricket on Sky Sport
  • West Indies, South Africa, India, Australia and more
  • All the action from ICC World Cups
  • Mike Hesson joins the Sky Sport team
We hope you’re tuning in to Sky Sport 2, the Cricket Channel, today as the BLACKCAPS start their Test against India.
Sky Sport 2 will be a busy place over the next few years, with Sky securing the rights to West Indies and South Africa internationals, adding to the great slate of international cricket already on offer from Cricket Australia, India and the IPL, and all of the ICC World Cup events.
And with so much content on offer, the world-class Sky crew needs another pair of safe hands. The team is delighted that the most successful coach in BLACKCAPS history, Mike Hesson, has inked a long-term deal to help deliver a tonne of cricket in 2020 and beyond.
Tex Teixeira, Sky Chief Content Officer says, “We know how important cricket is to our customers and we’ve focused on securing exciting and explosive competitions for fans. Expect to see the big hitters out in force when the BLACKCAPS tour the West Indies in 2020 with three ODIs (NZ’s favourite format) and three T20 tournaments – which will give the team a sense of how they are tracking two months out from the ICC Cricket World Cup.
“Then there’s India at home to England and South Africa at home to Pakistan in September/October – there’s plenty of world-beating batting before the excitement of the World Cup. So, we’re pretty chuffed Mike Hesson is joining the team on a long-term basis to give Kiwi fans the best insights in the game.”
Hesson, also Director of Cricket for Royal Challengers of Bangalore in the IPL, will be working closely with Ian Smith and the Sky team across the superb line-up of cricket on Sky, which includes:
  • ICC Women’s T20 World Cup – starts today!
  • New Zealand v India – test series in Wellington today
  • New Zealand v Australia T20 – March 2020
  • Cricket Australia internationals (men’s and women’s) – including the next BLACKCAPS tour of Australia, January 2021
  • The Big Bash Leagues in Australia (men’s and women’s T20)
  • All international cricket played in India (BCCI)
  • Cricket South Africa internationals (men’s and women’s)
  • Cricket West Indies internationals
  • The Indian Premier League (IPL)
  • All of the action from ICC marquee events, including:
    • 2020 ICC T20 World Cup (men’s and women’s)
    • 2021 ICC Women’s World Cup (hosted in New Zealand)
    • 2021 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup

Teixeira says, “We’re delighted we have Mike Hesson choosing to work exclusively with Sky in New Zealand to help us broadcast some of the most exciting cricket in the world.  Mike’s expertise and deep understanding of the game makes him an invaluable asset to our team, and ensures we offer Sky Sport customers the best intel and analysis possible.
“Mike’s known for getting inside the heads of his players – we look forward to hearing his thoughts on every line up from India, Australia, South Africa, the West Indies and beyond, and of course the BLACKCAPS and White Ferns during World Cups and many of their key international tours.”
Hesson says, “Sky has so much cricket on offer, from World Cup clashes to the Australian Big Bash and the IPL. I’m delighted to be joining the team in a long-term capacity. Smithy and I are already sharing thoughts on where we should be headed with the great game we love, and how to keep fans excited and engaged.  Sky is encouraging us to have the hard discussions and celebrate the good stuff wholeheartedly.  We won’t be holding back!”
