Retired piano players and teachers Georges and Anne have spent their lives devoted to each other and their careers. When Anne has a stroke that paralyses her right side, Georges takes on the role of  nursing her, promising he will neither send her to a hospital nor to a nursing home. But soon Anne's life deteriorates and her mental and physical capabilities decline very fast, putting immense pressure on Georges to care for her alone. Following a second stroke, Georges, pushed to his limits, makes a tragic decision. Starring Academy Award winner & BAFTA nominee Emmanuelle Riva (Lost In Paris), Jean-Louis Trintignant & Isabelle Huppert.  Winner of an Academy Award & Golden Globe for Best Foreign Film.
