Sky New Zealand secures a multi-year deal with Discovery Sports and the PGA TOUR

There are some sports that stand out for their sheer excitement, unpredictability and the stories of triumph and defeat, year in, year out. PGA TOUR golf is absolutely one of these. With this in mind, Sky New Zealand is delighted to confirm a multi-year renewal of broadcast rights with partner Discovery Sports.

 

Jonny Errington, Sky’s Chief Content and Commercial Officer, says: “We’re excited to continue our coverage of the PGA TOUR and work closely with Discovery Sports, the TOUR’s international rights and distribution partner. Together we’re looking to do more than simply bringing the best of the best to Kiwi golf and sports lovers.”

 

The news means fans will continue to follow the PGA TOUR on Sky NZ with exclusive coverage agreed for the coming years. The partnership includes the rights below:

 

  • The PGA TOUR’s FedExCup season, including the FedExCup Playoffs

  • Presidents Cup

  • PGA TOUR Champions

  • Korn Ferry Tour

 

Also available will be ancillary programming such as PGA TOUR: THE CUT; end-of-year review shows; and Official Films. These build out the sport experience and really tap into the desire fans have to understand what goes on in the minds and lives of their heroes on the world’s most prestigious fairways and greens.

 

Errington says, “Despite the uncertainty in world sport over the past year, the PGA TOUR has flourished. The best golfers in the world have given us some of the best sporting entertainment. 

 

“We’ve seen Jon Rahm, Collin Morikawa, Patrick Cantlay, Brooks Koepka and Bryson DeChambeau battle it out for supremacy, and we’ve seen Kiwis like Steven Alker finally hit his stride in phenomenal fashion and Danny Lee and Ryan Fox have kept us enthralled.  We’re excited to see what the TOUR delivers over the coming years.”

 

Sky NZ caught up with sport stars and now-commentators Phil Tataurangi and Israel Dagg to gauge what they think about the deal.

 

Pro-golfer and PGA TOUR aficionado Tataurangi says: “I’ve worked with Sky for a few years now and they really understand what the fans want and go all out to deliver. Only recently we worked together so fans in Aotearoa could see Alker finally achieve what he’s always promised.  This partnership with Discovery Sports and the PGA TOUR offers every Kiwi golf and sports fan the chance to see the best players in action. I’m excited Sky remains the go-to for the best golf in the world.”

“Golf is my second-greatest sporting passion,” says former All Black Israel Dagg. “It’s no secret I spend as much time as work and family permits trying to avoid the rough at courses around Aotearoa.  I’m stoked Sky has scored the rights to the PGA TOUR for the coming years.  When I’m not sideline for Sky Sport at the best rugby in the world, I’m glued to my smartphone or TV catching up with how [Rory] McIlroy is fending off [Jordan] Spieth.  Bring it on!”

 

The deal continues Sky NZ’s PGA TOUR coverage and begins January 2022 with the Sentry Tournament of Champions and the Sony Open in Hawaii.
