Sky to broadcast the Netball World Cup in 2023 - Sky

•    NZ continues to #SeeThePossible as Sky extends women’s sport coverage

As the Silver Ferns continue to chart their road to the Netball World Cup 2023, including with this week’s match against the Australian Diamonds, Sky New Zealand is delighted to confirm it has secured the broadcast, streaming and free-to-air rights for the tournament so that all New Zealanders can enjoy the tournament.
Sophie Moloney, Sky CEO says, “The Netball World Cup is the pinnacle event for netball, and we know how much it means to New Zealand fans.  One of the core goals of our See the Possible campaign is to show women and girls what is possible when they play a game they love, and this tournament is a superb way to do this.
“Securing the rights to the Netball World Cup in 2023 adds to an already impressive slate of women’s sports available on Sky Sport, including with important content available free-to-air. While the full draw is yet to be revealed, our teams are already making plans to ensure our coverage of this important event gets the attention it deserves.”
Sky will broadcast all the NWC matches live and on demand on Sky Sport and stream the games on Sky Go (complimentary for Sky Box customers) and Sky Sport Now.  Selected matches including all Silver Ferns games, will also be available free to air, ensuring fans from around the motu can watch the best netballers in the world.
Moloney says, “We value our privileged role in showcasing female athletes competing and achieving right across New Zealand sport, from the grassroots to the highest level. Netball is the most popular female sport in Aotearoa with more than 350,000 participants.”

Netball NZ CEO Jennie Wyllie said Sky’s investment in Netball World Cup is further evidence of the company’s commitment to women’s sport in New Zealand.

The deal was brokered by SPORTFIVE, World Netball’s global media distribution partner. SPORTFIVE’s Malcolm Thorpe said “We are delighted to have confirmed Sky’s relationship with the Netball World Cup. Sky’s commitment to women’s sport is exemplary and this commitment is a clear demonstration of the power of netball to deliver value to broadcasters as well as fans.”

•    The top 5 teams from World Netball rankings automatically qualify as well as the host nation, South Africa, these are Australia, New Zealand, England, Jamaica, and Uganda.
•    The remaining 10 teams qualify via regional qualification tournaments, with two teams selected from each of the five international netball regions - Africa, Americas, Asia, Europe and Oceania
•    Tonga and Fiji have qualified through the Oceania Regional Qualifier
•    Malawi and Zimbabwe have qualified through the Africa Regional Qualifier
•    Sri Lanka and Singapore have qualified through the Asia Regional Qualifier 
•    The regional qualifying tournaments will take place between July and October 2022
•    Four nations have played at every Netball World Cup since 1963 - Australia, New Zealand, England and Jamaica and the Silver Ferns have won the World Cup five times (in 1967, 1979, 1987, 2003 and 2019)
