One of the highlights of the world golf calendar prior to the Masters, this years Players Championship is set to be a fantastic few days of Golf. Or will American professional golfer Webb Simpson repeat history and beat McIlroy to the podium? Whatever the result we’re set for a spectacular 4 days of golf at TPC sawgrass. Keep up with the action with live coverage and commentary on Sky Sport or stream it all online with Sky Sport Now.

Who will the 2020 Players Champion be?

It’s all to play for in The Players Championship 2020 with one of the largest prize pools of any other golf competition. With a total prize pool of $17 million attracting golfers for across the globe, they won’t have to do well to not leave empty handed. Rory McIlroy, defending his win from last year, has been going from strength to strength since being crowned the world’s number 1 golfer and is set to use The Players championship as a way of keeping himself sharp and on form in his lead up to the all-important Golf Masters tournament later in April. But he faces some stiff competition from former Players champions and rising stars alike. Webb Simpson is making a return to the course, having secured a win this season at the Farmers Insurance open. Webb hopes to repeat history and pick up his 2nd Players Championship win in 3 years taking the podium ahead of McIlroy.

While Webb is hot on McIlroys heels Collin Moriwaka, another well placed player from the tour is looking to power on through. Morikawa hasn’t missed a cut all season, consistently scoring well. Although he is playing a little out of his comfort zone, Morikawa aims to place well if not taking home the win himself. With a late start to the tournament, Moriwaka can get the lay of the course and see how some of the other competitors deal with the conditions on the course and then use that knowledge accordingly.

Another familiar face returning to the tournament is golfer Patrick Reed. Coming off the back of a world golf win in Mexico, Reed hopes to stay ahead of fellow golfers Byson DeChambeau and Rory McIlroy to carry on his form from the WGC Mexico Championship and potentially putt his way to a top 10 placement at the very least. Whomever wins, the competition is sure to be fierce with so many globally ranked golfers coming together to play. All of them are motivated to win, but who wins, loses and places, will all be decided on the course.

It’s certainly all to play for as we head into what is sure to be a fierce competition in The Players Championship 2020 at TPC Sawgrass.
