Community

Sky has a rich history of working alongside our customers, crew and partners to make a positive difference in our local communities. We’re proud of what we’ve achieved through our charitable partnerships in the community.

Schools and Sports Clubs

Sport has a great part to play in fostering children’s wellbeing, social skills and academic success. As the Home of Sport, we’re committed to improving access and engagement to sport for all New Zealanders. In addition to upping the ante on our support of grassroots sports, we’ve donated thousands of sport tickets to schools and junior club rugby and league teams throughout New Zealand and we look forward to developing this initiative more in the year ahead.

The Starship Foundation

The Starship Foundation touches the lives of countless children from all over New Zealand and virtually all aspects of life at Starship. It is a wonderful organisation, and Sky is honoured to be a longstanding supporter for nearly 20 years. During that time we have helped fund hospital upgrades and new medical equipment, and we’ve provided extra financial support for the Starship National Air Ambulance and its crew. Our SKY Crew love to support Starship through fundraising and payroll giving, and we’re proud to deliver entertainment, movies and sport to children and their families at Starship to help bring joy, magic, and momentary escape to those who need it most.

Special Children's Christmas Parties

Sky has been a supporter of Special Children’s Christmas Parties for 13 years, and the naming rights sponsor since 2016. Each year hundreds of our Sky Crew members throw on reindeer ears and Santa hats to help bring some joy to more than 10,000 special Kiwi kids at the six Special Children’s Christmas Parties held across New Zealand. Each party is a day filled with bouncy castles, games and gifts for kiwi kids in need, and we work with our content and sport partners to bring Sky magic, like athletes and characters to the parties too.

Jonesy's Youth Foundation

Sky is a proud partner of Jonesy’s Youth Foundation (JYF), a charity dedicated to supporting young rugby players who sadly suffer the loss of a mother or father. The Foundation’s support for these children comes in many forms, be it through using rugby as a vehicle to support health and wellbeing and develop confidence, life skills and values, or by providing educational or financial assistance. We recently took some of the sports mad JYF children behind-the-scenes of a Blues match, where they got to see how the sport they love gets to screens throughout New Zealand, and meet some of the faces and voices of Sky Sport.Sky is a proud partner of Jonesy’s Youth Foundation (JYF), a charity dedicated to supporting young rugby players who sadly suffer the loss of a mother or father. Christchurch Earthquake Appeal

We committed $1 million over five years to help repair Christchurch. We chose to concentrate our efforts on sports and recreational facilities, to support the health and well-being of local communities and in particular, their young people. Our first $200,000 donation in 2013 was for the repair of the fields at Garrick Park. The second donation in 2014 was gifted to West Spreydon School to repair the community’s hugely popular swimming pool. In 2015, our $200,000 was gifted to Denton Oval to enable the lighting, changing rooms and bathrooms to be upgraded and the all the track rails to be replaced. Sky’s 2016 donation provided artificial turfs to 11 Christchurch primary schools who lost or incurred significant damage to their playing fields in the earthquakes, and our 2017 donation went to Ngā Puna Wai Sports Hub to provide scoreboards, PA systems and camera towers for the multi-code facility set to become the home of athletics, rugby league, tennis and hockey in Canterbury.
