BRITISH FILM FOCUS

Sundays 8.30pm in September

September explores some of the best new films from Britain. ‘Maze’ highlights the history of Northern Ireland and the biggest prison escape since World War Two. It charts the dramatic relationship of two enemies that suggest the first steps to peace in Ireland in the 1980s. Nominated for a BAFTA in 2019, ‘Care’ explores aging and family. It is an honest and inspiring exploration into the brutal change associated with sickness. ‘Beast’ is another fine piece of British cinema. Filled with grit, the film was a winner of a BAFTA for Outstanding British Debut in 2019. It stars Jessie Buckley (Chernobyl) and Johnny Flynn (Vanity Fair). It is a complex storm of love and murder, set on a small community on the Jersey Coast. Featuring a stand out British cast of Sam Clafin, Stephen Graham (The Virtues) and Asa Butterfield, Journey’s End follows the fatal tension and impending doom of front line warfare in World War 1. Bravery cripples in the face of reality, in this sobering film.
