Shark Week on Discovery

Discovery’s pop culture phenomenon, Shark Week, is back. This year fans can expect a whole week of Shark programming, including unmissable documentaries filmed in New Zealand. And don't miss Jason Momoa popping up now and again across the week to talk about all things shark!
 
Jason Momoa, fan-favourite actor, superhero and conservationist, who is dedicated to protecting and preserving the world’s oceans, will host the 35th year of Shark Week, Discovery Channel’s week-long celebration and investigation of shark habits and behaviours.
 
Momoa, who is hosting off the coast of New Zealand, will guide fans through nearly 20 new hours of television, featuring the apex predators. This year, Shark Week's programming will include: Belly of the Beast: Feeding Frenzy, a special that will provide a first time, close-up look at a great white shark feast - captured by researchers with cameras inside a whale carcass decoy - and Cocaine Sharks, a documentary that reveals what happens to sharks that possibly feed on cocaine and other illegal drugs dumped in South Florida waters.
 
Shark Week  will also spotlight innovative technology used to track and study unique shark species and their enemies. Showcasing the work of the world’s most respected marine biologists and science institutions, Shark Week  will also delve into mating and migration patterns - showing rare footage - as researchers follow the sharks to remote locations in South Africa, Australia and New Zealand.
 
The 2023 edition of Shark Week features even more unmissable documentaries filmed in Australia and New Zealand  - and includes Aussie and Kiwi shark experts and conservationists including shark attack survivor Paul de Gelder, scientist Dr. Riley Elliott and marine videographer, Madison “Shark Girl” Stewart.

Conditions of EntrySky NZ:

Sky NZ: Be in to win 1 of 2 Shark Cage Adventures for Two at Sea Life Kelly Tarlton’s Aquarium, Auckland to celebrate Shark Week airing on Discovery from December 3rd.
  1. Information on how to enter and prizes form part of these conditions of entry. Entry into the promotion is deemed acceptance of these conditions of entry and Sky’s Competition Terms.
  2. The Promoter is Sky Network Television Limited ("Sky" or "Promoter"). For further information email: socialmedia@sky.co.nz 
  3. The promotion is open to current Sky Customers that are New Zealand residents and aged 18 years or over. Employees of the Promoter and any agency involved with this promotion, and the immediate families of such employees, are not eligible to enter.
  4. The promotion commences on Monday 4 December 2023 at 10am and finishes on Monday 11th December 2023 at 12:00am (”Promotion Period”). Entries received outside of the Promotion Period will not be entered into the draw.
  5. To enter the promotion, simply, during the Promotion Period:
    • a)    Access your personal Facebook account; and
    • b)    Go to the Sky NZ’s Facebook Page, follow, like and comment on the pinned ‘Shark Cage Adventure’ post available at https://www.facebook.com/skynewzealand/  and comment on which Shark Week special you’re most looking forward to watching in the comments section. Entrants may enter the promotion as many times as desired but are only eligible to win one prize. 
  6. Two grand prize winners will be selected from all Facebook comments received during the Promotion Period by way of a random prize draw. The winners will be drawn on Monday 11th December 2023 at 12pm.  The winners will be the first and second valid entries randomly drawn from all eligible entries received during the Promotion Period.  
  7. Each grand prize winner will receive x1 Shark Cage Adventure for Two at Sea Life Kelly Tarlton’s Aquarium, Auckland (“the Prize”). 
  8. By entering this promotion, entrants agree to the use of their name, and high-res imagery of themselves during their ‘Shark Cage Adventure’ for use on Sky NZ’s media channels (social media – Facebook, Instagram, website and/or EDM). All intellectual property rights including copyright in any such promotional material will rest with the Promoter, without any claim to compensation from the entrants.
  9. The winners will be notified via a direct Facebook message, sent from the Sky New Zealand Facebook page to the user account associated with each winning entry. Winners must reply to that direct message within 72 hours confirming acceptance of the Prize.
  10. If an ineligible entry is drawn, or the Promoter is unable to contact a winner within 72 hours of the prize draw, having made reasonable attempts to do so, or the winner does not confirm acceptance of the Prize within 72 hours of being notified, the Promoter may deem that winner’s entry invalid and select a new winner/s on the same terms as the original prize draw.
  11. The Prizes are not transferable, cannot be altered and are not redeemable for cash
  12. If the Prize or any part of the Prize becomes unavailable for any reason beyond the Promoter's control, the Promoter may in its sole discretion decide to provide an alternative Prize.
  13. The Promoter reserves the right, at any time, to verify the validity of claims and determine the eligibility of entrants (including an entrant's identity) and to disqualify any entry or refuse to award a Prize where false or misleading details have been given by an entrant, or where an entrant has behaved in a fraudulent or dishonest manner, or otherwise than in accordance with these conditions of entry or the spirit of the promotion.
  14. Failure by the Promoter to enforce any of its rights at any stage does not constitute a waiver of those rights.
  15. All decisions made by the Promoter, its employees or its agents are final, and no correspondence will be entered.
  16. The Promoter may amend, suspend, or cancel any aspect of the promotion (including any prize or term) at any time in its sole discretion.
  17. The Promoter will not be responsible for any late, lost, misdirected, or incorrectly submitted entries, including but not limited to entries not received due to technical problems or human error. The time entries are deemed to be made will be the time the entry is received, not the time the entry is submitted by an entrant.
  18. The Promoter reserves the right to disallow entries in its absolute discretion and without giving reasons.
  19. All promotion entries become the property and copyright of the Promoter. By entering this promotion, entrants assign copyright in their entry to the Promoter.
  20. The winners acknowledge and agree that they will comply with all instructions given by employees of the Promoter and agree not to do anything that may bring the Promoter into disrepute.
  21. If a winner cannot accept or redeem the Prize for any reason, their Prize will be void and no compensation will be payable.

  24. Entrants acknowledge and agree that:
    • a)    their promotion entry comment will not contain content that is unlawful, fraudulent, or that the Promoter may deem in breach of any intellectual property, privacy, publicity, or other rights, and will not be otherwise defamatory, obscene, derogatory, violent, objectionable, or otherwise unsuitable for publication;
    • b)    their promotion entry comment will be made available for public viewing;
    • c)    the Promoter has not made any representations as to the quality or fitness for purpose of the Prize;
    • d)    the Promoter will not be liable for travel, accommodation or any other costs associated with redeeming the Prize. All such costs will be the sole responsibility of the winner.

The Promoter may collect, hold, and use personal information provided by entrants for the purposes of this promotion, verifying the validity of entries, contacting winners and checking winners' identities (including to facilitate provision of the Prize) and for future promotional purposes. Failure to provide requested personal information may disqualify a person from being able to receive a Prize. All personal information provided by entrants will be held by the Promoter. Under the Privacy Act 2020, entrants have the right to request access to and correction of any such personal information. Shark Cage Terms and Conditions
In any adventure activity, there is an element of risk involved. In undertaking our Shark Cage Experience you must be aware that this activity is carried out in an environment that includes numerous fish and sea life and there are risks involved in being in this environment.  

The staff and management of SEA LIFE Kelly Tarlton’s Aquarium take all practicable steps to identify and minimise potential dangers.  
  • You must follow our instructions and use the equipment provided at all times.  
  • Participants must be able to swim. 
  • Participants aged 17 years and under MUST have a Risk Agreement Form signed by a parent or a legal Guardian.
  • Participants aged 17 years and under MUST be accompanied into the cage by a parent/guardian aged 18yrs+. 
  • You must release or indemnify SEA LIFE Kelly Tarlton’s Aquarium and our staff against any liability we incur to anyone else, resulting from your failure to follow our instructions.  
  • SEA LIFE Kelly Tarlton’s Aquarium reserves the right to cancel or cease an encounter without prior notice in the event that they consider there to be a risk or danger to the marine life, the participant or others. 
  • SEA LIFE Kelly Tarlton’s Aquarium reserves the right to cancel an encounter if a session booking is for less than two people.  
  • SEA LIFE Kelly Tarlton’s Aquarium reserves the right to refuse admission to an encounter or to ask a participant to leave the encounter as a precaution or if the participant does not follow instructions given by the guide. 
  • In order to be confirmed, a booking must be paid in full.  
  • Under circumstances out of the control of SEA LIFE Kelly Tarlton’s Aquarium where an encounter has been cancelled or curtailed, participants are entitled to rebook the encounter, obtain a full refund.
  • You are entitled to access any information we hold about you or to request its correction at any time. 
  • Personal cameras are allowed into our shark tank during our Shark Cage Experience.  SEA LIFE Kelly Tarlton’s will not be held responsible for any lost or damage of personal cameras.  
  • Arrival later than 10 minutes after the scheduled start time will be considered a no-show and participant will not be entitled to a refund.   

Cancellation policy:  
  • Cancellations must be advised in writing to operations@kellytarltons.co.nz 
  • Cancellations between 0-5 days prior will receive no refund.  
  • Cancellations 6 days or more prior will receive a full refund.  
  • Date changes are not permitted 3 days or less before the booked experience.  
  • Date changes are possible 4 or more days before the booked experience subject to availability. 
  • Transfers to friends/family members possible as long as friend/family member meets participation criteria.   

WARNING: Under New Zealand law it is extremely unlikely that you will be able to sue anyone if you are injured. In addition, New Zealand’s Accident Compensation Corporation scheme provides only limited assistance to visitors to New Zealand who are injured. We strongly recommend that all visitors to New Zealand have full insurance covering any injury they might suffer, including medical treatment cover, before undertaking this activity.   

EXCLUSIONS: To the extent permitted by law, all our liability for damage to your property, disruption to travel plans, or mental injury is excluded. This exclusion is subject to any rights or remedies you may have under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993.
