Our ‘Sky for Good’ programme is about using our platform, our people, and our presence in the community to make a difference. Sky supports a range of community initiatives which align with our business strategy of connecting New Zealanders with the sport and entertainment they love, in ways that work for them, right across the country. We’re proud of the contribution we make to our community and are looking forward to continuing to build on the programme.
Starship
The Starship Foundation touches the lives of countless New Zealand children. It is a wonderful organisation, and Sky is honoured to be a longstanding supporter. Starship’s prime focus is on delivering family-centred care in a child friendly environment and we’ve been a sponsor since 2001. For the last 22 years we’ve provided Sky in Starship bedrooms to ensure kids are entertained and have something to take their minds off hardships they may be facing. We also donate airtime to help Starship spread their message of the great work they do.
Special Children’s Christmas Parties
Sky has been a longstanding supporter of the Special Children’s Christmas Parties involving nearly 10,000 Kiwi children with special needs, or challenging life or health circumstances. Held across 6 regions, we’ve been supporting the parties for 18 years. It’s not just about a donation for us – it’s also an important opportunity for a number of our crew to contribute their time and talent by volunteering on the party days.
Schools and Sports Clubs
Sport has a great part to play in fostering children’s wellbeing, social skills and academic success. As the Home of Sport, we’re committed to improving access to sport for all New Zealanders. In addition to upping the ante on our support of grassroots sports, we donate thousands of sport tickets to schools and junior club rugby and league teams throughout New Zealand.
Auckland Westpac Rescue Helicopter
The Auckland Westpac Rescue Helicopter provides an emergency air ambulance, search and rescue service and is staffed full-time by a highly experienced flight crew consisting of pilots, intensive care paramedics, pre-hospital and retrieval medicine doctors and air crew officers. In 2022 we began a sponsorship of Auckland Rescue Helicopter that provides Sky Subscriptions for 12 months 3 of their home bases to help keep them entertained during their downtime between operations.
Tries for Tonga
In 2022 we were also proud to get behind a special initiatives called Tries for Tonga (in conjunction with New Zealand Rugby and Rugby Australia), which raised over $100,000 during the DHL Super Rugby Pacific for the Red Cross and their work to support Tonga communities following the Hunga Tonga–Hunga Ha'apai eruption and tsunami.
